Pinnacle of Czech Music

Bedrich Smetana’s The Bartered Bride is one of the most influential pieces of Czech musical history. Often defined by its quintessential Czech spirit, this comic opera was one of the first Czech-originated musical productions to reach audiences worldwide.

Premiering in May 1866 in Prague, the production went under several edits before its final version hit the stage in 1870, where it began to spread worldwide.

Known as the “Father of Czech music”, Smetana pioneered an era of music that personified the cultural and political aspirations of the Czech people. His music connected with the people because of the changing political climate in the 19th century.

Join us November 19th, as we partner with Czech Educational Foundation of Texas (CEFT) as we welcome members of the National Prague Theater for a musical showcase of The Bartered Bride
