Ernest Pevny: Early Impressionism Landscapes

Ernest Pevny: Landscapes presents an ensemble of fourteen pieces from Dr. Pevny’s personal collection, painted over the past five decades. From Pasadena, TX to Portland, ME, Dr. Pevny’s early impressionist style captures nature in a dreamy state.

Dr. Pevny was born into a prominent family of Jewish physicians on July 27, 1936 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. In December of 1944, Pevny, his parents, and his brother were captured and deported to Terezin. Following liberation in May of 1945, Pevny returned to his hometown and finished high school. He then studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of Komensky University in Bratislava during which time he also studied painting with well-known Slovak painter Michal Tillner (a graduate of the National University of Applied Arts in Vienna) and classical piano with Helena Gaforova (a former pupil of Bela Bartok at the Liszt Academy in Budapest). After graduating from medical school in 1959, Dr. Pevny specialized in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases. Dr. Pevny emigrated to the United States in 1968 with his family following the invasion of the Warsaw Pact forces and trained as an anesthesiologist, which he practiced until his retirement.

Dr. Pevny is an accomplished pianist and professional artist who paints in an early impressionistic style. His subjects are landscapes of local scenery, still life, and flowers. Dr. Pevny's paintings were exhibited in his native country as well as in the United States. Some of his work can be seen on YouTube.
