meet the performers

Sparky’s Jazz Express with Tom Borling on piano, Steve Montgomery on bass, Ben Atkinson on drums and Sparky Koener on trumpet and flugelhorn will bring to you a salute to Jazz Music from Czechoslovakia.

Sparky Koerner is a trumpet player who performs in many types of ensembles, including being the leader of “Sparky’s Jazz Express” and The Galvanized Brass. Recently retired after 40 years as Director of Instrumental Music / Jazz Studies at College of the Mainland located in Texas City, Sparky served as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at COM and continues to direct the COM Community Jazz Ensemble as a Lifelong Learning Class. He recently retired as principal trumpet with the Galveston Symphony Orchestra.
