Four Seasons By Josef Lada
Josef Lada created a variety of caricaturistic paintings in which he often portrayed the four seasons of the year. Winter was his favorite season of them all. Despite his low-income background and not receiving extravagant gifts or valuables as presents, he appreciated spending quality time with his family. Lada enjoyed the warm and happy feeling that Christmas signified to him. For each season that he painted, he expressed a sentiment of the reality of his daily life and the tradition of Czech occupations and culture. Each season that the artist painted consisted of a religious scene, landscape, or outdoor activity that depicts the aspects of a rural lifestyle from ordinary people and events. Lada was a very devoted artist to his religious views in which he expressed a lot through his paintings. Several of the seasonal paintings depict devotional dates, such as the birth of Jesus, the three kings' arrival, Easter, and many other symbolic events in religious tradition. Lada’s work primarily consists of bold lines and his constant use of primary colors and secondary colors. The artist's color choices provide a tranquil and peaceful setting to each painting accurately, providing a sense to each season. Lada’s popular painting series, autumn, winter, spring, and summer, demonstrates a visual representation of activity or action that each child, person or animal is performing during the favorable occasion.
