Beloved Czech actress Libuše Šafránková passed away on June 9, 2021. She starred in several well-known films, including the 1973 Christmas classic “Three Nuts for Cinderella”.
Šafránková’s acting career began in Brno’s State Theatre, where she performed alongside her husband and fellow actor Josef Abrham. She would star in several Oscar-nominated films in the eighties and nineties, including “The Elementary School” (1991) and “My Sweet Little Village” (1985). Her performance in the 1996 film “Kolya” would win the movie an Oscar and earn her a Czech Lion Award for best actress.
She would find success in television as well throughout her career. Šafránková starred in shows like “Cirkus Humberto” (1988), “Cetnicke humoresky” (2001-2007), “Hospital at the End of the City” (2008), among many others. These series continue to be rerun frequently in Czech television.
Battling cancer near the end of her life, she would die on June 9, 2021 following complications regarding lung cancer. She is succeeded by her son Joseph Abrham Jr. Libuše Šafránková died at 68 and left behind a filmic legacy that will stay in the Czech artistic conciousness for years to come.
