In honor of Czech Heritage Month, we celebrate the bicentennial of Bedrich Smetana’s birth with chamber music by this beloved Bohemian composer. Program features his fiery first string quartet and masterful Piano Trio.

Performance is Thursday, October 17, 7:00 p.m. at the Czech Center Museum Houston. Seating is limited for this special event. Please sign up to reserve your free seat for yourself and your guests. Complimentary valet parking is available on-site.

MEET THE ARTISTS

APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS: Anabel Ramirez Detrick & Matthew J. Detrick, violins, Aria Cheregosha, viola; Matthew Dudzik, cello

Houston-based APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS “performs with rhythmic flair and virtuosity” (The Strad) and “recasts music for a diverse and multi-ethnic generation” (Strings Magazine) through globally-inspired programming and multicultural new music commissions. Recipient of Chamber Music America’s prestigious Residency Partnership award, the ensemble has performed for sold-out audiences at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center and is featured frequently on American Public Media’s nationally syndicated program Performance Today.

Violist TONYA BURTON enjoys a diverse career of both solo and ensemble playing. She recently won third place in the 2023 American Prize for Instrumental Soloists, “Best Classical Artist” in the D.C. Wammie awards, and a track from her debut solo album won a 2022 Wammie award for “Best Classical Song.” An artistic leader, Burton has been a core member of the Kinetic Ensemble since 2016, both performing and programming for the Houston-based string orchestra known for showcasing diverse, under-represented and newly composed classical music. Kinetic’s album Kinetic, recently debuted as number one on the Billboard Traditional Classical Albums chart in 2023. Burton is also a core member and curator for Monarch Chamber Players, a group dedicated to making high-quality chamber music accessible through free concerts in unique venues across the Houston area.
